Threads of Consciousness

2023

Threads of Consciousness is an installation that examines the relationship between thought and identity. The work combines hand-embroidered text on a quilt with a ceramic brain sculpture, physically connected by stretched black threads. Together, these elements make visible the idea that our internal dialogue shapes who we become.

The quilt, traditionally associated with comfort, memory, and care that serves as the ground for embroidered sentences drawn from reflections on belief, perception, and self-construction. Arranged in circular formations, the text echoes cycles of thought and neural activity. What is soft and familiar becomes a site of psychological mapping.

From the quilt, black threads extend outward and converge into a stitched ceramic brain. These threads suggest neural pathways, transforming intangible cognition into a tangible structure. Their tension creates a visual and conceptual bridge between language and the physical organ that generates it.

The ceramic brain, marked by a visible seam, conveys both fragility and repair. The stitched surface references vulnerability while also suggesting healing and reconstruction, reminding us that identity is not fixed, but continuously formed through thought.

By linking text, thread, and form, Threads of Consciousness invites viewers to consider how internal narratives shape lived reality, and how the invisible processes of the mind leave visible traces on the self
